Official UTMA Statement: Pakutinskas vs. Grigore Fight Result Changed

The UTMA organization presents its official position and explanation regarding the change of the final result of the fight between Tomas Pakutinskas and Ion Grigore, which took place during the UTMA 20 tournament, and the circumstances related to it.

At the UTMA 20 tournament held in Vilnius, in the “Main Card” section of the fights, the bout between T. Pakutinskas and I. Grigore took place in the weight category over 95 kg. The fight was conducted under kickboxing rules with MMA gloves.

After the fight ended, the result was announced in the ring, and T. Pakutinskas was declared the winner.

The UTMA organization, after noticing a technical point calculation error made by the judges, had to change the result of the fight between Tomas Pakutinskas and Ion Grigore.

In the first round of the fight, T. Pakutinskas suffered a knockdown. According to the approved UTMA kickboxing rules, this means that the round score must become 10:8 in favor of I. Grigore, as the ring referee did not make any decisions regarding additional penalties or point deductions in the first round.

Upon reviewing the judges’ scorecards, it was noticed that one of the ringside judges awarded the advantage to I. Grigore in the first round with a score of 10:9 – not in accordance with UTMA kickboxing rules.

After correcting this single calculation error from the first round, it became clear that the final result of the fight changes.

The UTMA organization presents in detail the point calculation that determined the final result.

During the second and third rounds, according to the evaluations of all three ringside judges, T. Pakutinskas was assessed as the superior fighter in the ring. One of the judges even saw a very clear and dominant advantage for T. Pakutinskas in the second round and awarded the victory to the Lithuanian in that round with a score of 10:8.

Thus, after summing up all the ringside judges’ scorecards, it became clear that two ringside judges saw a draw (28:28, 28:28), while one awarded the victory to T. Pakutinskas (28:27). This means that the fight ended in a majority draw.

The UTMA organization regrets the error and apologizes to the fans and fight participants for it, and in the future will improve the system and implement safeguards to ensure that such misunderstandings can be avoided.

UTMA once again thanks Tomas Pakutinskas for his career and wishes him the greatest success in his future life steps!
